Why Boutique Tones for Quad Cortex
Only real gear. Every capture comes from original analog equipment. We don't capture modelers or plugins, and we don't use loadboxes: every amp is played through our own collection of cabinets, microphones and studio outboard.
Made by players and engineers. Professional session players dial in and play the amps, sound engineers handle the capture chain. The result sits in a mix the moment you load it.
Search less, play more. We select a small number of amps and pedals, and a small number of tones per pack. Each one has a clear purpose, so you spend your time playing, not auditioning.
Official artist packs. Some packs are made together with the artists who own the sound, and every official pack is approved by the artist or brand behind it: BT Steve Lukather, BT Justin Derrico, BT Marco Sfogli, BT Eric Steckel, BT Ciro Manna MkII, and the official Mezzabarba packs.
Captures vs DI Captures
Our Quad Cortex packs come in two formats. The product page of each pack tells you exactly which one, and how many captures are included.
- Neural Captures (full rig). The amp, the cabinet and the microphones are captured together. Load the preset and play: the cab is already part of the sound.
- DI Neural Captures + Custom IRs. The amp is captured on its own, and the cabinet comes as Custom IRs voiced for that specific amp. You get more control: swap the IR, try another cabinet, or use the amp with your own IR library. Most of our recent packs use this format.
Our latest packs, such as BT B100, BT Division 13, BT Shiver and BT XTC 20Th, are made with V2 Captures, while our earlier packs use V1 Captures. The product page lists the generation of every pack.
Delivered to your Cortex Cloud
Quad Cortex packs are not a file download: the presets are shared with you directly on Cortex Cloud, and delivery is automatic. Enter your Cortex Cloud username when you select the Quad Cortex version, and follow "BoutiqueTones" on Cortex Cloud: Neural DSP requires both accounts to follow each other before presets can be shared. A few minutes after your order our system follows you and sends the pack: if you already follow us, it usually arrives within 15 minutes. If you follow us later, it arrives at our next automatic check, within a few hours. You'll find the presets under Shared With Me.
Your captures arrive inside presets. When a pack has more captures than fit in one playable preset, you also receive one or more utility presets: they are only there to deliver every capture to you, not to play.
Custom IRs and cab options
On packs with DI Neural Captures, the IRs are not generic: they are chosen and voiced for that amp. Several packs offer more than one cab option on the product page, from a curated essentials set to the original matching cabinet recreated as IRs. The IRs come as WAV files in the download link we email you: upload them to Cortex Cloud under Impulse Responses and download them to your Quad Cortex before loading the preset, so the preset finds them. All our IRs are minimum phase, so they blend cleanly with each other and with third-party IRs.

Frequently asked questions
Which Quad Cortex devices are compatible?
Our packs work on Quad Cortex and Mini Cortex. On Nano Cortex you can use the amp and cab content of every pack, but not the full presets: Nano Cortex doesn't load external presets, so effects, scenes and routing don't transfer. Amp packs are fully usable on Nano Cortex, while preset and artist packs work there only in their amp and cab part. The product page of every pack shows its compatibility.
How is my Quad Cortex pack delivered?
Automatically, through Cortex Cloud. When you select the Quad Cortex version, a field asks for your Cortex Cloud username: enter your username, not your email. Then follow "BoutiqueTones" on Cortex Cloud: both accounts must follow each other, as required by Neural DSP. A few minutes after your order our system follows you and shares the presets: if you already follow us, they usually arrive within 15 minutes. If you follow us later, they arrive at our next automatic check, within a few hours. Our Quad Cortex Support Guide shows every step.
I haven't received my presets yet. What should I check?
Make sure you are following "BoutiqueTones" and that the username in your order is exactly your Cortex Cloud username, capital letters included. Then look under Shared With Me on Cortex Cloud or on your Quad Cortex. If you started following us after your order, the pack arrives at our next automatic check, within a few hours. If you paid with an express checkout such as Apple Pay, the username field may have been skipped: in that case, or if the username was wrong, write to us with your Cortex Cloud username.
Why does the IR block show a yellow warning?
The preset can't find its IR, usually because it was loaded before the IR was on the device. Extract the ZIP from your download link, upload the WAV IRs to Cortex Cloud under Impulse Responses, download them to your Quad Cortex, then reload the preset. We recommend Cortex Cloud for the IRs: IRs moved through the desktop editor or USB are sometimes not recognized by the preset.
What's the difference between V1 and V2 Captures?
V2 is the newer generation of Quad Cortex captures. Our latest packs are made with V2 Captures, our earlier packs with V1. Our V1 packs still sound and play beautifully: they come from the same rigs and the same care, so choose a pack for its sound rather than its generation. The product page of every pack shows which generation it uses.
What's the difference between Captures and DI Captures?
A full-rig capture includes the amp, the cabinet and the microphones, so it plays as it is. A DI capture includes only the amp and needs a cabinet IR after it: every DI pack includes Custom IRs voiced for that amp, already assigned in our presets, and you can also use any IR from your own library.
What are the utility presets?
When a pack has more captures than fit in one playable preset, we add one or more utility presets just to deliver all of them to you. Use them to reach the captures, not to play: the playable sounds are in the main presets.
What input level should I use?
Set your input so that your hardest strums barely reach the orange-red area of the Quad Cortex input meter. That's how we calibrate our captures. There's no fixed number, because every guitar has a different output.
Does my purchase include the other platforms?
Each purchase is for one platform, the one you choose on the product page. If you already own a pack and want it for another platform too, write to us: you get the same pack for the second platform at 50% off.
I chose the wrong platform. Can I change it?
Yes, if the pack hasn't been delivered or downloaded yet: write to us and we'll switch it to the right platform. Once it has been delivered, we can offer the other version at 50% off.
Can I hear a pack before buying?
Yes. Every product page has audio and video demos, recorded by reamping the same DI track through the pack. You can also try our free captures on Cortex Cloud. We don't offer trials, and since these are digital files they can't be returned once delivered, so take a listen to the demos and write to us if you are not sure which pack fits you.
Will my pack be updated?
When we update a pack, you receive an email and the update is free.
